National Harbour, Maryland – May 15, 2023 – Following from the launch of 400GbE Layer 1 services in January, Southern Cross Cables Limited (“Southern Cross”), announces the availability of 400GbE Layer 2 services to be available in the second half of 2023.
“Southern Cross has offered Ethernet Private Line (EPL) services since 2009, being one of the first submarine cable operators to do so, and we have continually focused on developing the Layer 1 and Layer 2 capabilities to support higher bandwidths, with the introduction of 400GbE Layer 1 (“Fast Lane”) services in January being the latest iteration,” said Craige Sloots, Director of Marketing, Strategy & Sales for Southern Cross.
“With the continued growth of content and cloud demand, it is not surprising that Carrier Ethernet based services dominate the requested capacity service types for many providers including Southern Cross. The introduction of a 400GbE Layer 2 services allows our customers to take advantage of packet based capabilities on ultra-high bandwidth services across the three paths of the Southern Cross network.”
“This allows customers to make their strategic operational investment in high-capacity router capability, but flex and scale their interconnecting capacity requirements at lower rates to better align with their traffic demand growth profiles and business returns”.
The Southern Cross Layer 2 Ethernet product suite leverages the state-of-the-art capability of the Ciena 6500 T-Series and 8700 platforms to allow us to provide seamless MEF CE2.0 compliant Carrier Ethernet packet offering from 100Mbs all the way through to now 400Gbs.
