A Southern Crossmas

Back

They say it is better to give than receive, which is why this year Southern Cross has done something special for its customer Xmas gift.

On behalf of our customers, Southern Cross has made a donation to a Save the Children lead, Pacific – based community project that will bring joy to disadvantaged children well after the season’s decorations have been packed back into their boxes.

Your gift is to Fijian pre-schoolers to help ensure they get the education they deserve and to allow them to fully realize their own potential.

Due to political upheaval in Fiji over recent years, many families have been pushed into poverty due to thousands of jobs being lost. Consequently the access to quality education for Fijian children has been severely hindered.

Our donation is helping fund an exciting mobile pre-school project in which teachers travel to poverty stricken villages to deliver free preschool education to children under 5. The kids they visit get to explore, discover, learn and play, and most importantly of all – smile. Underpinning the project is the aim to promote long term sustainability and community ownership of the playgroups.

Visit http://www.savethechildren.co.nz/new_zealand/what_we_do/our_projects/fiji.html for further information on this and other projects.

The homepage of the Southern Cross website contains an animation that talks about this project and the voice that you hear is that of our very own Struan Millward – Southern Cross’s Network Provisioning Manager.

We have received some wonderful customer feedback about this gift including the following:

"The Southern Cross Xmas message on the SX website really touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes. Southern Cross's Christmas giving through Save the Children will definitely touch many in Fiji. Your gift couldn't have come at a more appropriate time and will not only bring a smile but sunshine to many of our under privileged children." (Ioane Koroivuki, Fintel).

"This is an excellent initiative - Thanks!" (Paul McCann, Verizon Business).

With the assistance of Save the Children we are hoping to bring you updates on this project and the children whose lives it is changing – so watch this space.

Merry (Southern) Crossmas!
