The availability of international capacity on the Southern Cross network continues to expand and prices have fallen again.
Southern Cross today announced the immediate availability of the first 200 Gigabits of capacity from its latest upgrade and a price reduction of up to 44 percent.

Southern Cross Cable Network today announced the selection of Ciena® Corporation (NASDAQ: CIEN) to expand capacity as part of its (Phase H) upgrade of its subsea cable network. To meet growing demand for high-bandwidth services and applications like video and cloud computing, which is now pushing its needs beyond 10 Gb/s wavelengths, Southern Cross Cables will increase capacity on all of its network segments between Australia, New Zealand and the United States, including one that spans more than 8,000 kilometers, with Ciena’s industry-leading 40G+ coherent optical solutions. Southern Cross Cable will also enhance its network’s survivability, efficiency, and intelligence with advanced bandwidth management and operations afforded by Ciena’s multi-protocol switching platform to future proof the network.

A successful trial of 100 Gigabits per second prototype transmission equipment has just been completed on the Southern Cross twin cable network. This significant technical breakthrough was demonstrated during extensive testing of the latest 40 Gbps equipment from a number of suppliers in readiness for the next Southern Cross capacity expansion targeted for 2012. Southern Cross currently uses 10 Gbps transmission equipment.“Southern Cross continues to invest and build ahead of demand, to support new innovation and broadband growth,” says Ross Pfeffer the Southern Cross Sales and Marketing Director.

Steve Dixon would meet his classmates at the blackboard in Kindergarten and hold his own art competitions to see who could draw the scariest monsters.
