Southern Cross Customer Forums 2008Date:14/05/2009 |

Thank you to all who attended.
In late November 2008, Customers, Suppliers, Landing Party Managers and Southern Cross came together for the annual Southern Cross O&M and AR&R forums at the picturesque Hilton Waikoloa Hotel on the Big Island of Hawaii. The event commenced with a relaxed welcoming reception on the first evening, followed by O&M Meeting No 14 on the following day. On the third day AR&R Meeting No 13 was held and at its conclusion, a number of customers took the opportunity to visit the nearby Spencer Beach Cable Station.
The two forum meetings covered a variety of topics including:
• A review of the years activities on the network,
• A progress report on the current Network expansion projects,
• Explanation and ratification of the Annual O&M budget,
• A review of the AR&R papers covering a variety of topics
• Presentations by two of Southern Cross suppliers, Nortel who provide our US terrestrial network, and Boss Portal who have developed our Operations System Support (OSS) network.
In addition, a participative forum session was held on the topic of Ethernet which gave Southern Cross the opportunity to hear customers experiences with Ethernet and their views on future implementation plans and requirements.
Those that attended were very impressed and appreciative of the opportunity to attend the forums which have traditionally been a mix of informative meetings, good food and drink, combined with the opportunity to network with fellow attendees.
To those staying in the building most distant from the meeting venue, it was certainly unusual to go to “work” by water in one of the many boats used to transport guests around the large hotel complex.
Planning is in progress for the 2009 Customer Forums and we hope to be able to announce details in the near future on its location and timing so watch this space!
